MINISTRIES
Wednesday Night Faith Focus
Contact: Hannah Cruse or Dianne York
"Faith Focus", funded by a Lilly Endowment grant through the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, aims to be a congregational boots-on-the-ground laboratory for connecting our worship and work. We will explore together what it means to put our faith into action. Come out on Wed, Aug. 30 from 5 to 6:30 pm in Fellowship Hall for dinner, a presentation from the Steering Committee, group discussion, and a "Practicing Our Faith" send-off exercise!
Music Ministries
Contact: Hannah Cruse or Carolyn Riggins
We believe that music-making is transformational. Musical participation expresses our love for God, affirms and teaches our beliefs, strengthens faithful relationships, exposes our strengths and growing edges in a safe space, and inspires discipleship beyond these church walls. All ages are welcome to join us in choir, bell choir, or come talk to our director about contributing your artistic talents in other ways. Wednesday bell practice at 6:30, choir practice at 7:15. Sunday morning choir practice at 9:15. Special events coming up include "Finding Your Voice" Singing Workshops, FPC's Got Talent Show on September 24, and One and Done Choir on October 1.
Dwell Ministries
Contact: Hannah Cruse
Our mission is to provide a place of refuge from the struggles and pressures of everyday life where young adults and parents can rest, find belonging, and work for justice in the world. Dwell Ministries hosts multiple events each month in addition to “The Trek” Discussion Group after worship on Sundays. There are always opportunities to serve the community, meet people with similar values, discuss faith questions together, and simply have fun. Next, we will be exploring Dunbar Cave together on August 20.
Faith and Fellowship Group
The Faith and Fellowship group is for adults of all ages hosted at the home of Lynda and Hershel Basham. It is usually held on the 4th Sunday of each month from 2-4pm or as listed on the calendar. Join us for hors d'oeuvres, Bible study, and good conversation! Perfect for couples and singles.

The Brotherhood Sunday School Class is open to all men. The class has been meeting for well over 100 years now! We are currently reading the book of Acts and discussing it but have many other things like discussing current events with Dr. David Kanervo and watching documentary-style films on the life of Christ. We support each other by listening to one another's personal stories and concerns. We meet from 9:00-9:45 each Sunday in the education building on the 2nd floor in the last classroom on the right. Please consider joining us!

Children and Youth
Children's Sunday School
Contact: Emily Vaughn or Brandi Goodwin
Beginning in September, we will form two classes for Sunday School during the church hour, following the Children’s Moment. The children will participate in a 20-minute lesson based on the liturgy read during the service. Lessons will include opportunities for children to learn about the Bible and apply their learning through hands-on activities and cooperative play. These classes will typically be structured in the following groups but could change based on attendance and the needs of the children.
- Developing Faith Class: Pre K - Second Grade
- Strengthening Faith Class: Third - Sixth Grade
- Confirming Faith Class: This class will meet when there are children entering their Confirmation year and will be determined yearly based on children choosing to be confirmed.
MISSIONS
Service & Missions Committee
Contact: Ann Waddle, Mary Johnson, or Jennifer Ellis
After over 50 years, the Service Committee is transitioning to a new approach and new name, The Irene Center for Hope. We received grants for helping with utility bills and rooms for the homeless. We are helping dozens of individuals and families with thousands of dollars in bills! We have received additional funding and welcome more volunteers to help administer the program.
Global missions have focused on Haiti and Rwanda. We have not been able to travel to La Gonave since the president was killed, but we continue to support the elementary school in Bois Brulee, where 145 students attend. In Rwanda, the Dorcas group is a Presbyterian youth group that we support, who makes meals for hospital patients. Jennifer Ellis is planning a spring trip to Rwanda.
FUEL
FUEL is a local mission which provides food to school children who might not otherwise have much to eat over the weekends. We bag this food and then Liberty Elementary School discreetly puts it in each child's backpack on Fridays. Our children and youth will be helping to bag up the food items this year.
Green Team
The FPC Green Team aims to leave a positive impact on the environment and encourage commitment to creation care. Our current projects include maintaining the Teaching Garden in collaboration with Seasons’ Adult Day Care, church-wide composting, and demonstrating to our Learning Center students and community how to treasure and protect the Earth.

EDUCATION
Learning Center and Preschool
Contact: Dianne York
FPC Learning Center offers a comprehensive, individualized education where students can speak openly and celebrate Jesus Christ and His presence in their lives while finding their individual learning styles and ways to be successful. In-person small group classes are designed to meet the diverse academic needs for homeschooled students of all ages. We love working with students and challenging them to "think outside the box." By encouraging their strengths, their weaknesses are diminished and confidence is built.
Seasons’ Adult Day Care
Contact: Ann Waddle
Seasons is a day center for adults with special needs. We provide opportunities for socialization as well as for improving life skills to individuals up to 4 days a week, 9:00-2:00. We have 11 crew members now, and we are hoping to hire additional staff as we expand. Monthly, we have music therapy, art lessons, and American Sign Language classes. This summer we enjoyed weekly visits to Blugrass Splashpark in Hopkinsville, picked strawberries, and learned to do laundry! Our goal is to provide interesting and fun opportunities for adults with special needs while providing a break for caregivers. Volunteers are always welcome!
ARTS
Makers’ CornerMakers' Corner is a creative space for makers, potters, writers, artists, knitters, sewists, and beyond to create and learn together. We make with hand and heart, acknowledging the beauty and imperfection of things made by hand. All are welcome. Makers’ Corner offers workshops and studio space in the AOC building.
