Haiti School Mission Update - Back to School in Bois Brulee

Image
In 2018, members of FPC visited Bois Brulee, Haiti. Since then, we have joined other Presbyterian churches as part of the La Gonave Haiti Partnership. Through your support, we provided hand washing stations during COVID, paid for a new latrine (there is no electricity or running water), have paid for repairs to the school along with new desks and benches, and are paying teacher salaries in Bois Brulee! Keep on reading for a full update on our mission in Haiti. Your support of this mission is appreciated every day!  A new middle school was constructed by local manual labor during 2020-2022 and is scheduled to open in October, when the Haitian government will hopefully allow all schools to open for the new school year. Here's a Google map view! Upper elementary students came back to class last spring. Because of increased enrollment and normal wear & tear, many of the 10 schools we serve have asked for new desks and chairs/benches. And for the first time, this summer, they held s

"The Trek - Fuel for the Pilgrimage": New Discussion Group Led by Pastor Greg

Image
New discussion group starting with Pastor Greg on October 2 at 9 am in Fellowship Hall ! It's called " The Trek - Fuel for the Pilgrimage."  Try out this weekly discussion group as we review the week just past and the week that lies ahead. Backpackers say everyone must "hike your own hike," but they also say that you cannot complete your hike without the help of trail angels, trail magic, and the help of fellow hikers. The spiritual life is a pilgrimage journey, a thru-hike, and the portion of trail we are on in 2022 requires plenty of refueling. Let's help one another travel light and travel far with the help of a few spiritual guides and outfitters who have walked the path before us.

Image
We would like to launch our "Chapel Art" and participation in the Downtown Clarksville Art Walk with a memorial show featuring photographs taken by our own late Bob Gandy. The pictures will be on display throughout the month with the show opening on Thursday November 3rd from 5pm-8pm. Photographs may be framed or unframed. We have temporary frames to keep the photos safe and clean.  Please contact Kris Foust at 931-216-7801 if you have a photo to loan. This will be the first of monthly art and artist opportunities in our chapel. L ed by Dr. David Kanervo, this group focuses on   current events and Scripture.  A specific event from the previous 2-3 weeks will be presented with prepared questions and/or statements intended to help generate healthy conversation--not to be confused with conflict or confrontation. Music Spotlight on September 25, 2022: Bluegrass and Country Music Kickoff!

Image
" This week at FPC, we will be kickin’ it back over half a century and showcase older gospel hymns in a bluegrass style! Songs like “I’ll Fly Away” and “Old Rugged Cross” are classics today and to kick off our “Gospel With A Country Twang” Sermon Series we are pulling out all the musical stops! All of our hymns will be played by our FPC Bluegrass/Gospel Band which consists of two guitars, a mandolin, a banjo, an upright bass, and a piano. Join us Sunday Morning to hear this extra special music and a surprise postlude!" - Allister Banasiak Inspiration for the sermon this week comes from Hank Williams' famous song, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." The song has come to epitomize the melancholy country music style, characterized by the nasal voice quality, an ensemble of rhythm guitar, steel guitar, fiddle, and upright bass, as well as introspective and woeful lyrics. Recorded in 1949 and reflecting Hank’s tormented feelings toward Audrey Sheppard, his first wife,

"Going Local" is excited to announce that a single mom referred to us by a member of First Presbyterian Church has been approved to be one of the first two buyers of homes built by the church, Mosaic Church, and the City of Clarksville. The home will be built at 724 Richardson St. on property donated by the city. The buyer may qualify for assistance from the city for down payment and closing costs. She will get a mortgage from a local lender. Thank you for your support of this program for single parent families. As she moves forward through the process, she will need support with help on budget, home maintenance, and being a homeowner.
