Celebrating 1700 Years of Ecumenical Christian Witness through the Nicene Creed

FPC will join Christians around the world in celebrating the 1700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed (Council of Nicaea, May – July, 325). The Nicene Creed is the most ecumenical of our creeds, affirmed by Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and most Protestant churches. It represents the preservation of the biblical witness to the truth of the Trinity in the face of conflict and persecution in the context of Graeco-Roman ideas and culture. It is a firm foundation for expressing our faith in a changing world.

Spring Sermon Series: Foundational Presbyterian Principles (Being the Church in an Age of Chaos)

Image
Foundational Presbyterian Principles (Being the Church in an Age of Chaos) In times of deep political division and polarization, amid expressions of hate and intolerance, even under tyranny and persecution, Presbyterians have stood firm in the faith through the affirmation of a set of principles first articulated in the wake of the American Revolution by the Synod of New York and Philadelphia and the first General Assembly in the United States in 1788 – 1789. Our Spring Sermon Series (April 27 – June 8) will examine these principles: freedom of conscience, separation of church and state, the right to govern the church and determine its membership without interference, the right to choose our leadership by election, our commitment to truth and holiness, mutual forbearance, and right use of church power and discipline. We will illustrate the strength and effectiveness of these principles in the resistance by Barth and Bonhoeffer and the Confessing Church in Germany to Hitler’s N...

Opportunity to Help Families Housed by The Irene Center

The Irene Center for Hope has been able to start helping families in the school system who are struggling with housing. During this week of bad weather, we housed 3 families with a total of 11 people in motels. Five families with a total of 15 people were able to apply for income-based rental apartments on Wednesday. Hopefully those 5 families will be approved for the program and able to get into new apartments in the near future. Once they are settled, they will need to take budget/finance classes, nutrition/cooking classes, and home maintenance classes. We hope to have childcare and snacks when we start the classes. If you are interested in helping, please contact Ann Waddle or Mary Johnson.
